Regents Row by Lexington Home Brands

Regents Row is an exciting new collection from Lexington that is a fresh interpretation of traditional living and classic expression. Designs in this collection retain the legacy of ribbon stripe mahogany, swirly mahogany and walnut burl veneers with decorative inlays that define borders with distinction and intricate carvings showcase hand craftsmanship. The rich heirloom finish enhances the natural character of the mahogany while the sparkle of gold leaf updates a timeless design.
The collection features two traditional, rich finishes. Heirloom is a rich brown Mahogany, and Albion is a hand applied gold-leaf (exclusive to Alexis Console).

Press Release: High End Furniture and Lighting Retailer Upgrades to the D.M.insite Mercury Platform

Cincinnati, Ohio, November 17, 2010—D.M.insite, a company that specializes in developing and
delivering ecommerce Software as a Service (SaaS) for online retailers, today announced that
Carolina Rustica, a growing retailing powerhouse of high‐end furniture and lighting, has successfully converted its ecommerce website to the D.M.insite Mercury Platform (Mercury Platform). The website upgrade sets a solid foundation for Carolina Rustica to drive their customers’ shopping experience forward while meeting the company’s forecasted growth over the next few years.

Richard Sexton, founder of Carolina Rustica, shares his reasons for the upgrade, “Retail sales of furniture and lighting have certainly seen some challenges over the last three years. We made a conscious decision to invest in our future knowing that many other companies are cutting back. I think our 25 percent growth this year is a result of our continued commitment to create a better customer experience on our website.

“D.M.insite has responded to our complex website needs since we first launched our site with them in 2007,” Sexton continued. “Our ongoing dialogue on improving the user experience has resulted in our industry leading website, and we’re even more optimistic on how our website will evolve over the next few years as we continue to work with the D.M.insite team.”

Moving to the new platform helps Carolina Rustica leapfrog over their competition with a well-integrated, feature‐rich ecommerce solution. At first glance, http://www.carolinarustica.com/ shares much of the same appearances as its forerunner. Behind the scenes, though, there are many enhancements that significantly improve Carolina Rustica’s ability to manage all aspects of their website and customers’ online shopping experience. Following are a few examples.

* An optimized and enhanced checkout flow through integration and implementation of PayPal best practices giving customers a significantly improved buying experience and increasing conversion and reducing abandonment on the site.

* High‐performing system integration with a site search solution built on patented advanced search technology from SLI Systems that delivers the exact results shoppers are looking for on the site.

* An ability to manage their product catalog directly in the Mercury Platform’s Site Manager, which affords Carolina Rustica the greatest ease and efficiencies for managing data on their large furniture and lighting inventories.

“It’s critical that our site gives us access to manage products, categories and navigation on a variety of levels as we bring on new furniture and lighting partners every week. The new Mercury Platform allows us to do just that, and we’re excited about the freedom and new opportunities this presents,” comments Sexton.

Strong search engine optimization (SEO) execution on the site that increases Carolina Rustica’s online visibility and boosts revenue by making sure the site and products show up in relevant searches.

Access to create personalized offers, online programs and promotions in ways that meet Carolina’s unique needs, creating the greatest impact on their ecommerce marketing within their local markets. The new platform upgrade provides Carolina Rustica with a robust, full‐feature ecommerce SaaS solution that positions them well to meet their competition head on. They have unprecedented access to design, customize, manage data and define even the most granular aspects of the customers’ shopping experience on their site.

Carolina Rustica stands ready to take advantage of many new tools and resources available to them on their new ecommerce platform in the months ahead. What’s top of the range, best value and Green? Sustainable carpets and new design technology

Todays Guest Post comes courtesty of InterfaceFLOR, a maker of commercial carpet, flooring, and carpet tiles.  Enjoy! (and click here to visit their site)

In the old days, a carpet used to be a typical heavy industry product. Carpets were basically petrol products, coming a range of uninspiring designs, and they were to all intents and purposes toxic waste when thrown out, difficult to manage and non-recyclable. They were also extraordinarily expensive to produce, and that cost was invariably passed on to consumers.

A lot has changed since those days, and modern carpets are not only better products. Their product life is now fully audited for cost-efficiency, and new design technology is producing a gigantic range of new design possibilities (like bio-mimicry for instance) in the market.

The net effect on carpet manufacturing has been like the invention of the wheel. For consumers, the new design possibilities have created a range of options for the home which previously could only have been obtained by hiring an interior decorator. As a matter of fact, interior designers have been extremely quick to see the possibilities of this new technology and the new design options. Even the professionals are voting with their time and money to use these new technologies in preference for the old.

The Design Revolution
What happened was a massive reappraisal of the entire process of the manufacturing and design of carpets at the most fundamental levels. If you've seen some of the very heavy duty carpets at airports, you'll be interested to hear that you're looking at an entirely new technology. These are modular carpets, and are not sewn together, but glued together. They have their own built-in and low. They're also truly Green, made from sustainable materials, which have dramatically improved both the environmental aspects and the baseline costs of carpet manufacturing.

For consumers, that means buying a carpet is a whole new ball game. Modular carpets of this type are extremely easy to maintain, extremely durable, and the product life cycle auditing also acts as an ongoing quality control. That means that you can buy a better product which will last a lot longer and therefore actually save money.

In comparison, old-style carpets actually created additional costs in terms of underlay, and were always a major production during installation. If these old types of carpet needed replacing, it often involved major upheavals. The new modular carpet tiles can be replaced in minutes, where old style carpet can take several hours to do the same jobs on the same scale.

The Green side of new carpets
As you can see, the new Green design concepts are anything but cosmetic. The use of high quality natural products has also created a wholly sustainable manufacturing environment, in which manufacturers are benefiting from low-cost production methods and reliable sourcing for their materials.

These benefits are being passed on to consumers in multiple ways. New design and setting visualization technology which allow people to view carpet designs on a range of settings are also expanding the design concept framework considerably. The net cost of a new carpet in real terms, plus the added design advantages of providing consumers with exceptionally high quality product and long product life, create built-in savings at the point of purchase.

Five Tips for Selecting Perfect Office Furniture: A Guest Post from BDI

A Guest Post from One Of Our Most Valued Suppliers: BDI

BDI is a high-end designer and manufacturer of home entertainment and office furniture, one of our "star" suppliers.  We love their fresh designs, affordability, and functionality.   Their Sequel Office Furniture Collection has been a huge hit, which you can find on our website here.  They have recently posted a blog entry, hugely helpful, on how to select office furniture that is perfect for you.   The original blog entry is on their site hereSo without further ado....

Five Tips for Selecting Perfect Office Furniture
As much as we may hate to admit it, we spend a lot of time in the office. Too many of us suffer in an office environment that is not well designed, and we make do with whatever furniture is afforded to us. But those in the know are aware that an effective, personalized workspace and intelligently engineered office furniture makes all the difference in our productivity and overall effectiveness. Whether you are setting up a professional corporate space or a small home office, there are certain considerations to keep in mind.

Sequel 6001Eileen ShelfSequel 6015

MAKE A LIST OF YOUR BASIC NEEDS

Before you start thinking about what furniture you will need, make a detailed list of your most basic office needs. The list should include items you must have for your office such as a computer, fax, printer, telephone, file storage, and so on. When making your list, think about the ways in which you plan to use the office. If you are a graphic artist you may need space for a computer and a larger table, or workspace for your artwork. If you are a consultant, you may need additional space for locking file cabinets to protect sensitive documents, and a place to meet with clients.  (Find BDI Desks at Carolina Rustica here)

CHOOSE YOUR LOCATION

If you are in a corporate environment, chances are your location is predetermined, but you still need to think about how best to use this space. Consider the location of windows, the entrance and the placement of wall outlets. In most cases, the desk should be positioned with a view of the office entrance and to make the most use of available natural lighting. Home office locations are much more flexible, ranging from the corner of a family room to a dedicated office in a spare bedroom. Make sure your home office is removed from potential distractions such as the kitchen, family traffic and noise. You can also make use of the space underneath the stairways or at the end of a hallway. The important thing is that you have a permanent space that is dedicated for work.

SELECT FURNITURE DESIGNED TO WORK FOR YOU

There are many choices when it comes to office furniture, and in particular the most central component - the office desk. While it may appear to be just a place for you to work, quality office furniture should integrate your technology and promote efficiency. Keep your electronic components in mind. Beyond your computer and printer, think about your cell phone, video camera or music player. A good desk includes wire management to keep those unsightly cords out of view. A desk’s top needs to be durable so you need not be concerned about marring it or leaving on it an unsightly ring from your morning coffee. Look for desks that include storage to keep everyday items out of view. If your computer requires a CPU tower, consider storage solutions that will incorporate it to keep it clean, protected and ventilated. Make sure that you choose an ergonomic desk chair with appropriate support. Your back will thank you.

CHOOSE FURNITURE THAT REFLECTS YOUR STYLE

Now you get to be creative. Choose furniture that reflects your style. Are you looking for something traditional or contemporary? Wood furniture has a more traditional feel, while steel and glass pieces are more modern and industrial. For a transitional environment, consider a combination of these materials. A professional office needs a consistent look, so choose a common aesthetic for your desks, storage cabinets, chairs and other prominent elements.
Sequel Collection

ACCOUNT FOR FILES AND SUPPLIES

Don’t forget all of the other elements that make up your office. A great desk is one thing, but if it is piled with paperwork and supplies it isn’t conducive to working. Utilize file storage drawers and cabinets to keep everything neat and organized. Mobile file cabinets provide flexibility as well as additional workspace. A locking file cabinet may be required to keep your files secure. If space is tight, consider adding shelves to your office to make use of vertical space.  (Find BDI Filing Cabinets on our site here)
In order to create an effective office, everything needs to have its place. Component systems offer the most flexibility in this regard, allowing you to combine work surfaces, file storage, supply cabinets and more to customize your office to your needs. Once you have a place for everything, STICK WITH IT! By paying attention to the details during the setup of your office, you can ensure that you have created a space where you actually want to work.

Easing Into Green Design: Guest Post by Wanda S. Horton

Our post this week is from the talented, tech-savvy and loquacious Wanda Horton, a local designer and great friend of Carolina Rustica.   Wanda has a great blog found here http://interiorconceptsbywanda.blogspot.com/  and we also recommend signing up for her newsletter or following her on Facebook (click here)

In this post, Wanda discusses Easing Into Green Design, a topic as important as it is current.   You can click here to find Carolina Rustica's Green Statement as well, and to find out who our greenest suppliers are!

Easing Into Green Design
As a consumer, if you aren’t familiar with the Sustainable Furnishings Council, let me take a brief moment to introduce you to them and why this connection will be a valuable tool as you make your next furniture buying decisions.  I do promise to be brief as I’m working fast and furious so that I’ll be ready to get to all of the showrooms during my upcoming trip to the High Point Furniture Market.  I’ll also give you great links so that you can further explore some of the details!
SFC
(A composite of manufacturers who belong to the Sustainable Furnishings Council.)
As a Charlotte, NC area interior designer, I know the jury may still be out, regarding green or sustainable design practices, mostly due to concerns about this being a “trend” or just some type of marketing tool, as well as the expectation it will create higher costs.  I do find; however, when I have a client who is getting ready to plan a nursery or a small child’s room, there is great attention paid to the sourcing of the furnishings, the bedding, and how we treat surfaces, such as the floor, walls, and ceiling, so as to keeping the environment as non-toxic as possible.  It’s certainly understandable that any parent would desire to provide their children with the best possible place to be nurtured, not only by them, but by their home.  Here’s the catch . . . What’s happening in the rest of the house?  Living goes on outside of the nursery and/or the playroom doors.  And, shouldn’t the rest of the family members and visitors receive the best of which any interior environment can offer?

(Great examples of “pretty”, green design from SFC members.  Click on a photo to visit their websites!)
Wouldn’t it be nice to take some of the guesswork out of the process of making selections? First, part of that responsibility falls on my shoulders, as your interior designer.  My charge is to be sure I learn as much as I can about the various sources, not only from the way they manufacture their products, but equally important would be how they travel to get to the consumer.  I also want to see if the vendor offers an aesthetic quality and comfort, which would be pleasing to my clients.  What makes the process much easier is knowing about the Sustainable Furnishings Council and the manufacturers who have been able to join as members.  Just being able to head to their website and browse the roster gives me a valuable tool to share with clients and the consumer public.  (An important note:  Some of the manufacturers, who are SFC members, may not have updated their websites, to acknowledge their memberships, and there are some manufacturers who do subscribe to green practices, who may not be members of the SFC.)  The benefit I can share, from my attendance at the High Point Furniture Market, will be seeing most of these sources, firsthand!
I’ll admit, I’m a discerning client, too.  I like to take my time to research and discover all of the details before I decide to make purchases, not only for my own home, but for my clients, as well. I’m easing into the world of green design and thank you for allowing me to share my newfound knowledge with you!

Furniture Retailer Carolina Rustica Unveils Mobile Commerce site

From our friends at Mobile Commerce Daily, here is another article about our continuing efforts to make our site fully accessible to mobile shoppers, through mShopper's exciting new platform.   You can find more information on mShopper by clicking this link, and you can read the full article by Dan Butcher of Mobile Commerce Daily by clicking here.
Furniture retailer Carolina Rustica unveils mobile commerce site

Carolina Rustica tapped mShopper’s new self-service B2B mobile commerce platform, which is designed to help retailers of any size to design and launch a customized, feature-packed mobile storefront in under one hour that can be viewed on any smartphone.
“Our objective [for launching a mobile commerce platform], like all ecommerce sites, is to get our product and our message out to as many potential customers as possible within our target demographic,” said Richard Sexton, president of Carolina Rustica, Concord, NC. “Having a Web site by itself is not enough.

Article From Internet Retailer Featuring Carolina Rustica

We were recently surprised (in a good way) when an article popped up in one of our favorite industry magazines, Internet Retailer, concerning inventory management.   The article has some choice quotes from Carolina Rustica founder and president Richard Sexton, and you can read it by clicking on this link.  You will get redirected to Internet Retailer, so make sure you click the back button to return to our blog.

The article, entitled "The Right Message", by Senior Editor Thad Reuter, points out that inventory build-up is an issue for all successful online retailers such as Carolina Rustica.    There are close-out sites that specialize in liquidating inventory, or there are some other obvious options like well-known auction sites.    However,  here at Carolina Rustica, we choose to sell our closeouts, floor samples, and customer cancellations through our very active Clearance Section.   Full of incredible deals at up to 60% off of retail, this part of our website is constantly changing, as we take advantage of special deals from our own manufacturers and pass the savings on to our customers.   We also have a special In-Store Clearance section, which has lots of great floor items at huge savings, as well as some manufacturer specials.   Be sure to check out our Lexington Furniture Clearance Section, one of our most popular lines.   Clearance items are a great way to bring down the total cost of re-doing a room...even if its one or two items.   As the article points out, we like to keep our clearance and regular-priced items together so customers can take advantage of both!

Multichannel furniture retailer Carolina Rustica was in beta testing with mShopper and is now up and running—and getting sales.
“We’ve been using the GetFirstDibs feature where we send texts to our customers, and our very first one resulted in a sale,” says Chris Knollmeyer, I.T. specialist. “We continue to send out weekly deals exclusively for our mobile customers so they can get special deals and not just what everyone else gets.”
MShopper has had 12 retailer clients in beta testing, including Beach Camera, Carolina Rustica, Smart Momma and Surfside Sports. To expand its client base, mShopper is in discussions with a variety of e-retailing technology and services providers to form partnerships. Its first partner is MerchantAdvantage, which repurposes retailers’ product data feeds for comparison shopping engines and affiliate networks. MShopper says it is in discussions with other companies, including affiliate networks Commission Junction and LinkShare, and comparison shopping sites Pricegrabber and Shop.com.
